ABOUT THIS WEBSITE
Welcome to the website for The Phoenix Ride on 28 August 2011, the Bank Holiday weekend.
This site was last updated on 30th August with the latest entries. Also see Stop Press and Latest News below.
RESULTS OF THE PAIRS COMPETITION
Thank You
First of all, a big thank you to all competitors for supporting us at Phoenix and for leaving the venue so clean and tidy. The venue was left just as we found it when we shut the gates on Monday afternoon; no rubbish and no skipping out from the lorries and trailers. Thank you all very much; the owners of the venue were extremely impressed.
EMAIL questionnaire
In a couple of weeks we will email a questionnaire about the ride to obtain some feedback on the route, venue and organisation in general. Please watch out for it and give us some constructive comments when you have time. We have some ideas on how to improve the route for 2012, but need your comments first.
Results of the Pairs Competition
The results of the Pairs can be found below, in order of declaration (not in place order). Rosettes for the winners and runners up will be in the post in the next couple of days.
Please note that if your pair is not listed below, then this is because one or both of the combinations did not complete successfully - OR because the declared pair were in different classes (which was against the rules - sorry!!).

1. STOP PRESS
Friday 19th August: Entries Todate
Click on Classes and then on "Entries/Results" for the relevant class to see the entries to the Phoenix Ride so far.
Tuesday 16th August: Call for Entries and Helpers
We are very short of entries for the Phoenix Ride at the moment, so we are holding late entries open until Monday 22 August. Phoenix is a wonderful opportunity to ride over the East side of Exmoor, taking in the Crown Estate to the north of the venue (towards Dunster) and down to Wimbleball Lake to the South, the latter predominantly over private land. The 65km class takes in both loops, whilst the 45km class encompasses both. The 34km class goes to Wimbleball Lake only. We have permission for camping and corralling at the venue this year for Saturday and Sunday nights, so why not give it a go!
However, if you cannot ride, then we are also desperately short of helpers, so even if you are fairly local to the venue and perhaps can give up half a day (but a whole day would be even better), we would be most grateful. If you can help, please reply to this email us on or phone us on 01398 332089.
Sunday 24th July: Route Map Now Available for Download
The route map is now available and can be downloaded by clicking on the "Download Map" tab in the top left-hand corner of this home page. Only one small but significant change has been made this year. By kind permission of Beryl & John Norman we have cut out the rough tarmac track on the Wimbleball (Southern) Loop from Leigh Farm back to CP1. The route now goes over private land - thank you Beryl & John.

3. VENUE, CAMPING & CORRALLING
The venue for The Phoenix Ride is on Treborough Common by kind permission of the owners of the land, Sarah and Mike Weatherlake. It is situated on the east side of Exmoor, about 25 miles east of Taunton on the B3224 to Wheddon Cross, Long/Lat N 51o 6´ 23” W 3o 25´ 17”, OS Map 181, Grid Reference ST006352. This venue provides easy access from the road and ample parking for both trailers and lorries of any size.
For the first time this year camping and corralling is available at the venue during the nights of Saturday 27 August and Sunday 28 August 2011 at a charge of £10 per night. Separate camping and corralling areas will be designated and portable toilets will be available. The venue is totally enclosed with fencing and hedges. Campers should ensure that all gates leading out of the venue are closed at all times until the beginning of the ride so that any loose horse does not escape.
One word of warning! Treborough Common is open and fairly high (1,250 feet), so the weather can be interesting, so if sleeping under canvass, then tents should be of good quality. Bring waterproof clothing and of course the barbeque! On a clear day the views are breathtaking.
4. ROUTE AND ROUTE MAP
The route consists of three loops which combine to make up the required class distances:
A 34km loop south of the venue, to Wimbleball Lake
A 31km loop north of the venue, over land owned by the Crown Estate
A 16km loop west of the venue to Kennisham Hill
The 65km competitive class takes in the northern loop, returning to the venue for mid-ride vetting and then goes out over the southern loop. The 45km competitive classes combine the southern and northern loops without returning to the venue. The 34km competitive classes ride the southern loop to Wimbleball Lake. The 34km Non-Competitive (Pleasure Ride) class also uses the Wimbleball Lake loop whilst the 16km class uses the Kennisham Hill loop.
Left click on the "Download Map" tab in the top left-hand corner of this home page to download a route map.
5. RIDING FOR NON-MEMBERS (Classes 6 and 7)
Non-members of Endurance GB are welcome to join in the fun at The Phoenix Ride – you don’t have to join EGB first. There are two Non-Competitive (Pleasure) Ride classes to choose from, as follows:
Class 6 is a 34km (20 miles) circular route to Wimbleball Lake, much of it over private land that you would otherwise not be able to ride.
Class 7 is a 16km (12 miles) circular route to Kennisham Hill.
You can find more information on Classes 6 & 7 by clicking on Classes and then clicking on the Class 6 or Class 7, whichever is of interest.
The entry fee for Non-Competitive (Pleasure) Rides for members of Endurance GB is £20 and £23 for non-members. An entry form can be downloaded by clicking on "Download Entry Form" tab in the top left-hand corner of this home page or simply Contact Us and we will email one to you. Alternatively send us an SAE and we will post one to you. The entry form can be copied as many times as you like.
Also note that non-members can compete in Class 5, the 34km Competitive Ride, provided that they are either riding a horse registered with EGB for the current season by an EGB member, OR if the non-member signs up to the "Try Before You Buy" scheme. Click on TBYB for more details of this scheme.
If you have any questions about riding at the Phoenix Ride for non-members then click on Contact Us to phone or email the organisers - we are here to help.
6. PHOENIX PAIRS COMPETITION
The Phoenix Pairs competition is open to all riders in classes 1 to 5 inclusive. Pairs can only be declared on the day of the ride (not in advance please) by completing a simple pairs entry form. Both riders in the pair must compete in the same class and may ride together if they wish (we will be flexible with the start times on the day as necessary). The results for the Phoenix Pairs competition in each of the five classes will be announced on the website on Tuesday 30 August 2011 and the prizes / rosettes mailed to the winners.
